Greetings Golfers!

It was great to see the terrific response to our Customer Appreciation week for Daytona Beach and Volusia county residents over Labor Day weekend.  Thank you for coming out to play and enjoying our facility!

Our maintenance staff is currently working on the Champions Course greens conducting the final aerification for the season.  The golf course will open for play on Friday, September 5.  The staff is working hard to smooth out the greens, however, since the condition of the Champions course greens will be under par, we will be again offering our "aerification rate" of $35.00 per person plus tax from September 5 through September 12, 2008.

LPGA International supported the PGA and USGA initiative as a host of "Patriots Day" throughout the month of August. Funds raised will provide educational scholarships to families of those who have become disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty.  We would like to remember our public service families on September 11.  Please come out to play on Thursday, September 11, 2008 for a rate of $35.00 plus tax.  We will be hosting a $5.00 drawing for rounds of golf and other merchandise, all of which will be donated to the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Look forward to seeing you soon!   Wishing you great golfing!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Labor Day weekend!

We had a great tournament here last week with the North Florida PGA Section Championships.  We would like to congratulate Steve Lamontagne. He came in first place overall for the tournament.  We would also like to thank all of the PGA professionals that played in this event as well as the PGA staff that organized this tournament. We all enjoyed seeing so many great players. The tournament was a great success and we are proud to have hosted such a prestigious event!

We would like to welcome back the Gearst Group on our Legends Course on Sunday, September 7th.  We would also like to welcome the Soucy group this week.  They will be playing Legends on September 7th and Champions on September 9th.

This week we are aerating our Champions Course September 2nd- 4th so Champions will be closed during this time.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about organizing a golf event for any group of 12 or more.  We will customize a package that fits the needs of your group and will arrange all of the food and beverage details for you also.

We look forward to seeing all of you this fall!

golf tip

from Mary Hafeman,
PGA and LPGA T&CP member

The fit of your golf clubs affects your swinging motion.  You can work on your balance, posture, swing plane and tempo, but your clubs have a large influence one how you set up to the ball and how you swing your clubs.  Custom fit clubs can enhance your game and our PGA & LPGA  staff members are trained to provide an expert fitting experience.

Here are a couple thoughts for you when investigating club fitting:

Select a club that has a variety of fit systems from different companies ---LPGA International offers Titleist, Cobra and TaylorMade systems -the top three industry leaders.

With your instructor, hand pick each golf club for your bag based on YOUR strengths and weaknesses of your game.
For example, if you have slow swing speed, you may want to use easier-to-hit hybrids and fairway woods instead of long irons.

Don't forget custom fitting for your putter.  The putter is the most used club in the game, so make sure yours is right for you!

Call the staff at LPGA International or stop by to see our custom fitting systems. We'll be more than happy to talk to you and guide you to a better game!  Guaranteed!

jesse's recipe of the month

Cuban Sandwich
Wild Mushroom Gratin

Ingredients
Makes roughly 4 sandwiches

1 Head Garlic
2 Cups milk
Small pork loin roast
½ t thyme
½ t rosemary
Salt and pepper
1lb Black Forrest Ham
8 slices Swiss cheese
8 slices American cheese
Dill pickle slices
3 T Mayonnaise
3 T Yellow Mustard
Cuban Bread

Preheat oven to 350.
The first step is making the roasted garlic for the pork loin. To start, remove cloves from the head of garlic. This can be done by smashing the head to separate the individual cloves, and then gently smashing them with the side of the knife to remove the paper from each clove. Once all removed, place garlic and milk into a small sauce pan. Bring to a simmer and simmer for 20 minutes being careful not to boil the mixture over.

After the cloves have softened in the milk, strain them and place them into a small foil pouch. Drizzle a small amount of olive oil, salt, and pepper onto the garlic and wrap the foil pouch up. Place on a sheet pan and roast for about 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and gently smooth the mixture in a bowl with the back of a spoon.

The pork loin is now ready to be roasted. Season all sides generously with salt and pepper. Place in an oven proof Pyrex or other roasting pan. Rub the roasted garlic mixture on the top of the roast, and sprinkle fresh herbs after. The pork will need to roast for about 25-50 minutes depending on the original size of the roast. You can tell when the pork is done by inserting a thermometer in the thickest part — it should read around 145 degrees. Once this temperature is reached, remove the roast from the oven and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.

Everything from this point on is just assembling the sandwich. First cut the bread to open up the two halves. Spread equal amounts of mayonnaise and mustard on both halves of the bread. Next place pickles on one half for each sandwich. Next, divide the ham and slices of the roasted pork on both sides for each sandwich. Finally, place 2 slices of each cheese on the sandwich halves so each sandwich has 2 Swiss and 2 American. Place all sandwich halves cheese side up on a sheet pan in a 350 degree oven until cheese melts and sandwiches are warmed through. Combine both halves and enjoy.

Shorten

James was playing a round of golf with the club pro one day and after 18 holes they went into the clubhouse.
James asked the pro, "What do you think of my game?"
The pro replied: "You should shorten your clubs by 1 inch."
James asked if the pro thought this would help his game.
To which the pro said, " No! It will help them fit in the trash can!"
