Greetings Golfers!

Many thanks for those of you that came out to watch the Florida State Junior Tour that was held on the Legends Course over the weekend.  The tour boasted boys and girls from 16-18 years old.  Congrats to the Boys Junior Champion, Mathew Ceravolo, with a 1-hole playoff win after shooting scores of 73-74 from the back tees.  Stephanie Kim won the Junior Girls title with a score of 76-72 playing off the white tees.  The conditions on Saturday were spectacular but Sunday’s round was much more demanding with temperatures 20 degrees cooler and wind gusts throughout the morning rounds.  The conditions on Sunday had scores higher for the majority of players.  We’re proud of how the juniors played and conducted themselves on the Legends Course.  We’re very excited to be able to be a part of supporting Junior Golf in the area and State.  Thank you to the volunteers and Florida State Golf Association for their contribution to Junior Golf, our future players of the game.

We also hosted the LPGA Teaching and Club Professional Certification programs over the weekend.  I would like to thank the LPGA Teaching Division evaluators and staff for conducting their evaluations at our club.  Thank you to all the volunteers that came out for a complimentary lesson. This gave the apprentice teachers their chance to improve their teaching skills and move to a new certification level and eventually to full Class A Membership in the LPGA Teaching and Club Division.

Keep in mind that we also offer a wide variety of instructional opportunities at LPGA International.  We have certified trained staff members who will help everyone from the new golfer to the advance player improve their games.  We conduct weekly clinics, individual lessons and group clinics that can be coordinated for multiple days.  Group clinics are a great way to get a group of people together for some fun and instruction in a non threatening environment.  Call the golf shop today, and ask for Beverley Davis to help plan your improvement schedule.  We guarantee that you will improve your game and lower your scores.

Also remember that this Saturday, we are having a club fitting evaluation included in the Full Swing Clinic conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  We’ll help you identify your needs and help you to get the best trade in value for your current equipment through PGA Trade-In Network.  Sign up today!  LPGAInternational.com or call the golf shop 274-5742.

Upcoming ---Sock and Golf Glove testing for men and women.  Dates to be determined late November and early December.  More information to be announced next week.

We’re very excited to offer you a great opportunity to play golf at our award winning club.  We want to get your feedback.  This week we are interested in growing our Ladies Golf League.  We want to know what day and times would be the best for women to play LPGA International on a weekly basis.  Our goal is to develop a women’s golf group at LPGA International that is open to all players, conduct weekly events, and give an opportunity for women to meet other players in a fun and friendly environment.  Please send us your feedback to proshop@lpgainternational.com.  We’re really interested in hearing from you!

Have a great week playing!  Hope to see you at LPGA International this week.

We are excited to share with you our wonderful service, great golf courses, awesome after golf club house.  Check out our new flat screen TV with a quick beer, settle your games and have some lunch while enjoying our new atmosphere in the clubhouse after your round of golf.

Mary

outings & tournaments

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone had a great week and you're enjoying this amazing fall weather we are experiencing!

We are all looking forward to another great week of outings!

Today, we are welcoming back the James Group; they are playing the Champions Course at 8:55am.  This is a group that was referred to us by a local hotel and we really appreciate our working relationships with so many great hotels in the area.

We would also like to welcome the Sugar Mill Group.  Some of the group will be playing our Legends Course and some will be playing our Champions Course with tee times beginning on both courses around 8:30am. When they all finish play, they will head into our restaurant for a great group lunch.

We also have the SunCoast Series playing the Champions Course today with tee times beginning at 10:00am.  Tomorrow, Thursday, the 20th, the SunCoast Series will finish up their 3 day event on our Champions Course with tee times starting at 10:00am.

On Friday, the 21st, we would like to welcome the Oaks Group.  They will be playing the Champions Course at 12:30pm and then they will get to experience the Legends Course on Saturday the 22nd.

We are all looking forward to seeing the Lantz Group on Saturday also!  This is a local group that we haven’t seen in a couple of months and they will be playing our Legends Course. Tee times begin at 7:35am.

On Tuesday, Nov. 25th, we will host the SunCoast Series for another 3-day event. This time they will be playing our Legends Course with tee times beginning at 10:00am.

It's not too late to take advantage of the great group rates I'm offering through the end of January - if you book now!  Call or email me for more details.

Have a great week!

golf tip

from Mary Hafeman
PGA & LPGA Director of Golf Operations

Winter greens in Florida are usually over seeded with a blend of bent grass. I love bent grass greens; they are much faster in speed and consistency.   For all of you that either visit us in the winter or who grew up in the north, you’ll be familiar with quick bent grass.

I thought it was appropriate to give you a few tips on how to take the fear out of putting on fast greens.

  1. Lighten your grip pressure – hold your hands looser on the putter.  You will deliver a softer stroke and it reduces tension in your arms.
  2. Stoke the ball to the hole.  Continue your follow through to the hole.  Many times on fast greens, the golfer stops the follow through at the ball.
  3. Most importantly, play more break than normal.  Putts break more on fast greens.  Remember that most amateurs consistently miss on the “low side,” by failing to play enough breaks.  Line up to miss on the “high side” and you’ll make more putts in the long run.

To get a more in depth discussion involving putting in general, sign up for the Thursday Golf Clinic at LPGA International from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m.  You’ll be able to learn about how to read break, how to make the putt when you need it.  Your instructor, Beverley Davis, is a former LPGA Tour player and winner of numerous amateur tournaments.  She knows what it takes to make the putts under pressure.  She’s ready to share some of her secrets and experiences with you.  Call the golf shop at 274-5742 or go to our website at LPGAInternational.com to sign up!
